Card Sleeves

Sleeves are the cheapest insurance a collection has. A sleeve costs a few cents; the card inside it can be worth several hundred euros, and most of what devalues a card β€” corner dings, edge whitening, fine surface scratches β€” comes from ordinary handling and shuffling rather than from any single accident.

We stock Dragon Shield Matte sleeves in twelve colours. Matte is the finish most players settle on: the textured back separates cleanly when you shuffle instead of sticking, and it reflects far less light than a glossy sleeve β€” which matters at a table under bright lighting and again when you photograph a card to sell it. They fit standard-size trading cards, so the same sleeve works for PokΓ©mon, Riftbound and most other games.

One piece of advice that saves money later: buy one pack more than you think you need, in a colour you can buy again. Sleeve dye shifts slightly between production runs, so topping up a deck a year later can leave a visibly mixed set β€” and mixed backs make individual cards identifiable from behind, which is a problem in real play.

For a card you intend to keep or sell rather than play, the usual order is an inner sleeve, then a Dragon Shield outer sleeve, then a toploader or rigid holder. Japanese PokΓ©mon cards are slightly smaller than standard, so they sit loosely in a standard sleeve unless you double-sleeve them. Choosing a colour? Our Dragon Shield matte sleeves guide compares all twelve colours and explains which ones hide wear best.
